Now that you have an understanding of heart rate and target heart rate, answer the following questions:

  1. What is resting heart rate? What is considered normal resting heart rate? What is your resting heart rate?
  2. Using the equation discussed in the article, what is your average maximum heart rate? HINT: Maximum Heart Rate = 220 bpm - Age.
  3. Find your target heart rate zone (50%-85% of Maximum Heart Rate). HINT: Target Heart Rate Zone = 0.50 x Maximum Heart Rate (bpm); 0.85 x Maximum Heart Rate (bpm)
  4. When you go for a run do you push yourself to reach your target heart rate zone? Why or why not?
